Join us for the closing of A BODY POLITIC | Artworks by Bill Warrell
We are thrilled to include to the exhibit a new painting starting on the morning of 11/10 entitled DEJA COUP 11/9 (2016) 30 x 40 – India ink, oil paint on canvas - $5,000. It is the first time in the artists history that he has started and finished a painting in less than three weeks (pictured above)
Bill has emerged as a visual artist this century — after many years in Washington DC as an impresario of performing arts and music. His history in DC as a “cultural rabble-grouser” included founding d.c. space, a seminal alternative venue run by artists from 1977-1991 (a downtown performance space/creative laboratory, a kin to Capital Fringe), and the original Nightclub 9:30/Atlantic Building on F Street. He and his District Curators also produced numerous festivals over two decades from the Pension Building to Freedom Plaza that included 9th Street Crossings, New Music America: Washington 1983, Africa Fete, ADD Arts and the Jazz Arts Festival until 2000.
A BODY POLITIC — paintings and drawings — triggered by his career in Washington DC in the midst of US elections. Each canvas is a “Political Landscape” that consider both the strength and vulnerability of the human body, seen through the threatening lens of ever-changing US politics and burning issues of the day.
